MPD for windows and satellite setup?

Post by bern »

Hi,
I'm trying to setup MPD instance/satelitte on my windows10 x64 laptop running in satellite setup (nfs protocol and proxy plugin).
I activated nfs in my windows10 pro and when I paste music_directory address :

Code: Select all

\\10.10.10.1\var\lib\mpd\music
in windows explorer I can browse my library and play files using windows player.
However when I paste the same address in the mpd.conf (as music_directory). The MPD instance interpret it as:

Code: Select all

/10.10.10.1varlibmpdmusic
and ofcourse can't play.
Can I set the correct/understandable address in windows mpd.conf?
windows cmd:

Code: Select all

C:\mpd>mpd.exe C:/mpd/mpd.conf
Jun 21 18:49 : exception: Decoder plugin 'wildmidi' is unavailable: configuration file does not exist: /etc/timidity/timidity.cfg

Something is wrong. Are you sure you want to use NFS? Because NFS addresses start with "nfs://" and have no backslashes.
See https://www.musicpd.org/doc/html/plugins.html#nfs

Yes. The windows mpd version supports nfs and proxy. I would like use mpd on windows laptop instance as one of mpd satellite. In the future (ver 0.22) also with WASAPI.

so I think this is linux style. As I read in windows OS UNC Path is applicable.
See: Working With the Universal Naming Convention (UNC Path)
Could the MPD windows version support UNC or can any workaround be used?

Please explain.
Currently in my windows10 pro (with NFS client enable) the UNC address:

Code: Select all

\\10.10.10.1\var\lib\mpd\music
works ok but, as I understand, mpd (windows version) can not recognise it.
At the other hand windows OS cannot regognise the linux syntax:

Code: Select all

nfs://10.10.10.1/var/lib/mpd/music

You should follow the MPD documentation, and not make up something else and then wonder why it doesn't work.

Of course, in the first place I followed the documentation and I setup few 'linux satelites'.
But the proceedings according documentation seems to does't work for 'windows satelites'...
If you know where I am making a mistake please tell me.

I fail to grasp this sentence, this doesn't appear to make any sense. Rephrase.

I meant that following the documentation (in the case of the satellite setup) leads to an error (in fact inability to use mpd player) if we have mpd instance (satellite) installed on the windows machine. I think that the documentation (as well as MPD) is primarily for Linux and not cover all differences beetween mpd usage on Windows vs Linux.

So this is the real problem. And this is why you attempted to do random things contradicting with the documentation, which failed as well, of course. This path only leads to more chaos.

Why not solve the initial problem?

You didn't ask for help with your initial problem. You asked for help with a problem caused by you doing random things.
