Generic ALSA output device

Post by robiwan »

Hi all,

Using Volumio, I noticed that the only ALSA devices selectable are hw: (and plughw: ? ) devices. This makes it hard to add functionality to systems like f.i. equalizers a.s.o. having to setup a ALSA Loopback device and alsaloop it to a ALSA PCM plugin. This has several drawbacks, one most important being that implicit (under the hood) SRC will occur.

Any plans on being able to provide users to connect to arbitrary ALSA devices, which can be configured in /etc/asound.conf ??

Regards
/Robert

MPD can use arbitrary ALSA devices.
In MPD, there is no such thing as "selectable devices". You just write the device name in mpd.conf.
If what you look at is Volumio, then ask Volumio people for support. This is not a MPD limitation you're seeing.
