Raspberry Pi mpd -> Serial port -> Arduino?

Cool stuff you can do with MPD. A place for you to put your hacks and patches, or be inspired by others'.

Raspberry Pi mpd -> Serial port -> Arduino?

Post by FlyingLotus1983 »

Hi,

I'm wondering if it's possible through some commandline piping or minimal source hacking to have mpd operate over a USB serial port connection rather than an ethernet connection? The client will be a custom sketch on an Arduino Mega 2560. I know I could get the arduino ethernet shield for $50 or so, it's been done with great success already, but if I could skip the ethernet layer all together, that would be pretty cool. This will be my first project with mpd, but I'm coming into this with a very strong software background with a ton of arduino experience, but I'm pressed for time and haven't found any google hits on the serial port stuff. I'm totally ok with modifying the source but I don't want to re-invent the wheel if someone else has already implemented this. Can anyone offer any advice on what it would take to get mpd working over a usb serial port?
