Ignore lossy files when lossless is present

Post by tremby » January 13th, 2015, 9:54 am

My library is a mishmash of lossless and lossy files. I want to maintain everything possible lossless but have lossy versions of everything for easy dumping on my mobile devices. Is there any way to have MPD detect that the same track (via Musicbrainz ID, for example) is available in various qualities, and ignore everything but the best?

tremby,

Could you attack this request with a few additional directories?

I typically have the following directories in my music library:

musicstore/dsd
musicstore/itunes
musicstore/cdrips <== ripped to wav then converted to FLAC by the Naim UnitiServer
musicstore/hires
musicstore/mp3
musicstore/wav
...

Using links you can have a pretty MPD music directory and 'just' link the directories you want MPD to access.

Then you can have common music storage directory.

The caveat is you would need to separate your files by type [lossless, lossy, etc]. But for me this allows me to use the exact same file store for my UPnP music server, MPD, FooBar, etc.

Best regards,

Ron
