Read BPM metadata from server or client?

Post by doronbehar » December 14th, 2018, 5:56 pm

Hello everyone,

I'm using MPD and ncmpcpp for a while and I was wondering, does MPD support querying a track's BPM (bits per second) from it's metadata information? If so, is it published to clients as well?

I'd be very much pleased if I would be able to sort my playlists according to BPM. In order to create such functionality, does it require changes in the server as well or only the clients'? I would like to know if I need to create an issue in MPD's issue tracker for this feature request or would creating a feature request in ncmpcpp's issue tracker would suffice?

Thanks.

BPM means bits per second? Huh?
No, the bit rate is not available as song metadata. MPD shows it only for the song that is currently being played.

BPM - Beats Per Minute. This is the tempo of the music. Some audio tagging tools calculate this value and add it as a "BPM" tag.
