MPD on Pi or Hi-res player on NAS?

Post by BroX » September 4th, 2018, 9:45 am

Hi!
Currently I am playing music that is stored on a NAS via mpd on a raspberry pi. I could also install mpd (hi-res player) directly on the NAS. Are there any advantages of one approach over the other?
Cheers, Leon.

Yes, MPD would have direct access to the music files, and wouldn't need slow network access to the files.
Does the NAS have a (digital) sound output? Can it play audio over, say, HDMI? If not, then the Pi may be a better choice for actual playback, but MPD on the NAS could still do the database scans (https://www.musicpd.org/doc/html/user.html#satellite).

I had never heard of this "hi-res player", so I googled it and found https://www.asustor.com/app_central/app ... =321&type=
Don't use that! It's a horribly outdated MPD version which will not be supported by this project.

And the guys who made it violate my copyright. Please notify them and ask them to take it down.

Hi Max,

yes that is the one. I was wondering about the version too.
So I will just keep running mpd on the pi, which has served me well.

If the hi-res player developers violate your rights then I think it will be much more effective if you would notify them yourself.

Cheers, Leon.

Website https://www.asustor.com/app_central/app ... ype= lists shows MPD as developer :?: Package is a renamed zip archive and lists William Lin (william777.lin@gmail.com) as maintainer.

No source code, no license. This is clearly illegal.

I've sent an email to support@asustor.com
