Congradulations with mpd 0.20.x on Ubuntu 17.10

Post by sbeuz » October 26th, 2017, 4:02 am

With ubuntu 17.10 and default mpd version 0.20.x the system plays native DSD files !!!

(just write dsd_usb "no" in alsa mpd.conf section to have the native DSD)

[...] Enjoy ;D

No need to do that. It's off by default.

And note that "dsd_usb" is the deprecated name. It's now called "dop". The protocol had no name yet when MPD implemented it initially.

Oh, and another note: the MPD version in Ubuntu is not supported. Bug reports and suport requests for it will be closed instantly, because Ubuntu decided not to incorporate the latest MPD bug fixes. Supporting old MPD versions with known bugs is just a waste of precious time.

Of course, I use the DENON DA10 DAC (for DSD) && I use the MICROMEGA "myDAC" too ...

Denon, Denon... yes that rings a bell, the manufacturer of expensive audiophile bullshit. A $500 ethernet patch cable with direction arrows. I wonder why people still buy from that company after this fraud.

There are so many companies selling "audiophile" voodoo bullshit (AudioQuest, NordOst and many many others), because some people like the warm feeling of having spent thousands of dollars, and then imagining it actually sounds better. I think that's a psychological effect: if you've wasted thousands of dollars for bullshit, your consciousness will do everything to repel proofs that you made a mistake, even if it's necessary to distort the reality around you.
But Denon previously had a reputation for non-bullshit products, and they destroyed that by joining the audiophile voodoo game. I'd never ever buy anything from Denon, because I now know for sure they want to fool their customers. And I don't want to be fooled.

Denon's US$ 500 Ethernet cable episode is about eight to ten years in the past. They are back in the butter and bread hifi business. (Standard disclaimer: happy owner of a 30 year old Denon power amplifier.)

Thanks for keeping MPD free from bullshit / esoteric / voodoo related stuff.
