Track prelistening on a client

Post by Joe » June 3rd, 2014, 7:20 am

Hi There,

I currently looking around for a new solution to play my music.
- Sometimes listening just for myself
- Some other times, when I act as a »pseudo« DJ on a party

So I currently check, if mpd match my needs.

I like the idea of the mpd's client server concept, which allowes to use some different clients for remote control.
In that way, I could allow some party guests to browse my music library using their own mobile phones and add their favorite tracks to the playlist - sounds nice.

Ok, as I'm acting as a kind of DJ when on a party, I need the capability to prelisten the tracks (picked from library or playlist) using a headphone (e.g. via the headphone jack of my mobile device) without disturbing the mpd's current playlist playback.

Might that be possible using mpd?

Btw: While DJing, I don't want to perform scratching or any other turntable acrobatics.

This means you need to have two sound chips - one for the "public" speakers and one for your headphones. You can do that with MPD by running two instances of MPD, one for each sound chip.
