MPD on Raspberry Pi Stopped Working

Post by snapetom »

Somewhere along the way, MPD stopped working. I have a small speaker hooked up to the audio jack of a Pi3B. I have no idea where to begin with figuring out where to begin with this.

I can add to the playlist via mpc and mpc status will appear like things are playing. However, no sound comes out. omxplayer works when playing local mp3 files, and sound-test works properly.

Code: Select all

$ mpc status
FM JAMAICA RADIO: The Official Reggae Radio: 18:30 : Police and Thieves - Junior Murvin
[playing] #1/5   0:01/0:00 (0%)
volume: n/a repeat: off random: off single: off consume: off
/var/log/mpd/mpd.conf basically says:

Code: Select all

Jun 19 22:32 : player: played "http://us5.internet-radio.com:8487/stream"
Jun 19 22:32 : zeroconf: No global port, disabling zeroconf
Jun 19 22:32 : exception: Failed to open mixer for 'My ALSA Device': no such mixer control: PCM
/etc/mpd/mpd.conf's audio_output section looks like this:

Code: Select all

audio_output {
        type            "alsa"
        name            "My ALSA Device"
#       device          "hw:0,0"        # optional
        mixer_type      "hardware"      # optional
#       mixer_device    "default"       # optional
#       mixer_control   "PCM"           # optional
#       mixer_index     "0"             # optional
}
There is no /etc/asound.conf file. I tried to use a few examples online, but nothing worked. There is a file in /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf, and there is a local one in pi's directory (.asoundrc).

I originally had problems even starting and restopping MPD. I complied 0.22.8 from source and that at least looks like it's working.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks!

Don't configure MPD vioa asound.conf. Use a "hw:" device, after figuring out which "hw:" device you want to use.
