GIT version of MPD and Native DSD

Post by rhoering »

Hi,

Does anyone have the docs on the GIT version of MPD to make it output native DSD?

Thanks in advance,

Ron

Ron,

MPD (from GIT) should pass native DSD by default to a compatible DAC. As far I understand this (and I may be wrong), you can have the following:

1. Native DSD - MPD will stream DSD to a capable DAC by default. No need for "dop" setting to be available.
2. Upsample PCM - MPD will convert the native DSD stream and output the data as Hi-Res PCM. This is in case where the DAC does not support native DSD. No need for "dop" setting to be available.
3. DoP (DSD over PCM) - MPD will send DoP data to a capable DAC if the "dop" option is available and set to "yes".

Why don't you read what the MPD user manual writes about it?

Max,

No fair you updated the user manual like a Ninja. :)

When I was running the git version of mpd I was not sure I was seeing native dsd getting to the DAC.

In my question I am looking for the settings in mpd.conf that we can use to set the output manually. I will look through the user manual for this info.

Based on Rasi's feedback on the install walkthorough, I may be breaking my mpd install.

I will report my findings after some more testing.

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Max,

The silly led on my DAC is inconclusive. I will do more research this weekend.

Best regards,

Ron
