MPD Unmounting Music Library Drive

Post by jimbo » May 12th, 2019, 12:28 am

Hi, I'm running MPD on Arch linux (as a user) with my music library stored on a mounted SD card (my laptop doesn't have enough space for my library). The SD card is a ~64 gig microsd formatted in exfat, and it's mounted to /mnt/music using fstab. When I try to play music on MPD, it will play for a few minutes before freezing and unmounting my SD card. I've spent pretty much all day trying to figure this out but I can't, my best guess is that it's some kind of permissions issue, but I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure the SD card isn't the issue because I can listen to my music library in MPV and I haven't had any issues adding more files to it with rsync. I reinstalled MPD and the problem's still persisting, so if anyone has any ideas it would be hugely appreciated. I've tried changing the input device, changing the output device, switching the options on fstab, mounting manually, reinstalling, and formatting the sd card with no luck.

'mpd --version' output:

MPD cannot unmount your SD card. Even if it had code to do so, it wouldn't have the required permissions to do that. I have no idea what is causing your problem, but I'm fairly certain it has nothing to do with MPD.

btw. reinstalling MPD never solves any problem. That is just doing random things, hoping randomly something changes. If you have a systematic problem, reinstalling doesn't make this systematic problem go away.
