I can not compile mpc client on my mac (10.8), I've done the followinf steps:

1) download the libmpdclient (version 2.8) and compiled without apparent errors using "./configure" then "make" & "make install"

2) download the mpc version 0.23, run the ./configure but I've got this error message:
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for a thread-safe mkdir -p... ./install-sh -c -d
checking for gawk... no
checking for mawk... no
checking for nawk... no
checking for awk... awk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes

checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler works... yes

checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes
checking for gcc option to accept ISO C89... none needed

checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... (cached) yes
checking for pkg-config... no
checking for socket in -lsocket... no
checking for gethostbyname in -lnsl... no
checking for LIBMPDCLIENT... no
configure: error: libmpdclient2 is required

Please, can anyone tell me what the problem is?
Or better, can anyone give me an example of a very simple Makefile, so I can try to compile my example program ?

thanks in advance

obviously you need to install libmpdclient (including its header files). just like the output told you...
