Re: Can't resolve hostname on localhost if Wifi is down

in any case: "Failed to resolve host name" is definately not a mpd-specific error. something about your network is wrong.
or maybe you simply have to restart network services to detect the change?

Re: Can't resolve hostname on localhost if Wifi is down

your mpd is not configured to run on localhost. its configured to run on "127.0.0.1" - and no, that's not the same.
connect using this IP. (MPD_HOST=127.0.0.1 mpc)

Re: I want to listen to music on the client machine.

for mpdroid to play the stream some things need to be in place.

a) mpd needs a httpd output section.
b) start playing something
c) click on "streaming" in mpdroids menu.
d) wait (this can take up to 30 seconds)

Re: Failed to open ALSA device "default": Input/output error

set a device in your mpd.conf
aplay -L will show you the names.

example:

Code: Select all

device "iec958:CARD=U2,DEV=0"

Re: albums disappearing

Look here: http://forum.musicpd.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=218 I also had some troubles with that. You have to compile the new version on your own and the documentation about that is hmmm... what shall i say... why the rolling eyes: one of hundreds of tutorials: http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/Instal...

Your version of mpd is like 20 versions behind and unsupported. Please update and try again.

Re: Help MPD please...

first of all, you dont create the files. mpd does this automatically. delete the files, but keep the directories. after that the easiest solution is to change mpd user in mpd.conf to "greg". if you want to keep user "mpd" you need to change permissions of /home/greg and /home/greg/.mpd plus its subf...

Re: MPD on ubuntu

just wait. it will not take days, but probably an hour or so, with so many songs
its possible to run mpd with "mpd --verbose --stdout --no-daemon" this way all added songs will be displayed in the terminal

Re: MPD on ubuntu

The easiest way is indeed to run mpd as your own user. I have written a script that helps you setting it up: http://dl.53280.de/mpdsetup.sh It will only ask for path to music (with tab completion) and write a configuration file to ~/.mpd/mpd.conf this should already be enough to get a working setup....
