Re: REQUEST: Walkthrough of Installing from Source

Ran, Excellent points. My interest is in the headless daemon install but I also want to understand the user install scenario. So restating my walkthrough goals: A) Create a headless daemon walkthrough for installing 'mpd from source' on Debian (and Ubuntu) B) Create a user account based walkthrough ...

Re: REQUEST: Walkthrough of Installing from Source

Sorry to run into a weekend starting a request like this. I tend to work 24x7. Areas where I think we could use more detailed docs are: 1) A discussion of the configure file (possible edits required or parameters to pass on the ./configure param1 param2, etc) 2) where the files and directories are p...

Re: PCM plays fine but DSD files [dff & dsf] do not...

I updated my ticket in bugs. I was able 'kill -9 <pid of mpd>' and return mpd to service WITHOUT rebooting the PC. In my previous testing I was trying to stop mpd using 'mpd --kill' and 'service mpd stop'. With mpd hung it now makes sense that it might not respond to these in-band commands. So I bel...

Re: PCM plays fine but DSD files [dff & dsf] do not...

Ran, Thanks for being active on the forum and this thread. Do you have a doc you refer to when you install from source? I am going to dig into the configure file as well as the mpdconf.example file to start documenting the actual process in detail. Gaps I see are: a) default locations for the direct...

Re: PCM plays fine but DSD files [dff & dsf] do not...

Hi ever, That does look very old. I am reading up on the installing from source. Each distro seems to have old or even very old mpd packages. To complicate things I have notice various packages seem to place the various bits of mpd in different locations on the file system. I would like to create a ...

Re: PCM plays fine but DSD files [dff & dsf] do not...

Hi dvdr, I just started playing with my iFi micro iDSD [on my PC not with MPD]. I got a response from linkweaker and he will try to merge his work on mpd-dsd into mpd. On the iFi nano iDSD id definitely does support native dsd streams. That is what made it so amazing for a $189 dac. The iFi nano iDS...

Re: PCM plays fine but DSD files [dff & dsf] do not...

The diffs between mpd-0.18.12 and mpd-dsd-0.18.12 seem focused in the decoders. diff between mpd-0.18.12 & mpd-dsd-018-master includes left-only, right-only, differing files .\configure.ac different (D:\Profile\rhoering\Documents\AuraNAS\mpd\mpd-dsd-018-master is more recent) .\license only in D:\Pr...

Re: Where are the MPD-repositories?

Rasi, well it's easy. mpd was never meant to be set up through a package manager. about EVERY distribution ships a nonsense configuration, so better just set it up yourself :P Can you point us to a document that how to "set it up yourself"? The user manual is too brief and does not provide guidance/...

Re: REQUEST: Walkthrough of Installing from Source

I found doc on http://nyxi.eu/blog/2013/04/15/compile-mpd-and-mpc/ that looks like it might be what I am looking for. This is an example a gap that I would like to fill: Check the ###### MPD CONFIGURATION ###### output from ./configure and make sure everything you want support for has + in front of ...

Searching in phpbb frequently ignores the search query

For example: "The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: compile. You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards." In https://www.phpbb.co...

Re: PCM plays fine but DSD files [dff & dsf] do not...

Hi Ran, I have tried that using the same hardware but not on the same OS build. The files played fine. I am going to start the process of installing from source. The question is should I go with the 18.x source file or grab the 19.x from GIT. On a related note I have just received my iFi micro iDSD....

Re: PCM plays fine but DSD files [dff & dsf] do not...

Hi Ran, Cirrus on the bugs site said it looked like a kernel driver failure due to needing to reboot to clear the issue and not MPD. So I wiped the pc and reloaded Ubuntu 14.04 i386. I am going to try compiling from GIT. The question rattling around in my head is what kernels with what alsa builds a...

Re: PCM plays fine but DSD files [dff & dsf] do not...

Hi Ran,

I will do that. Thanks!

Running mpd --version returns:

Music Player Daemon 0.18.12

I do not see any subrevision/build number.

Best regards,

Ron

Re: PCM plays fine but DSD files [dff & dsf] do not...

Hi Ran, The CPUs are fairly quiet [haswell proc and ssd disks]. This seems to effect only DSF and DFF files. FLAC [PCM all resolutions] work as expected. I actually need to restart MPD and sometimes even reboot the PC. It appears that the device does not disconnect/release after a DSD based files. I...
