what would be a good choice for streaming format if i'm not constrained by bandwidth but would like to the keep resource utilisation low?
encoder "flac" wtih compresseion "0" or "1" should work well even on modest hardware.

Re: MPD doesn't display titles correctly that contain an é

MPD doesn't display titles correctly that contain, for example, an acute accent. For example, if there is an é in the title, it will be displayed in mpc and in /var/lib/mpd/state file as a ?.
Could not reproduce with MPD and mpc on Debian testing x64. Perhaps Collin mixed up filename and metadata?

Oh joy of systemd :D

@Colin> Have a look at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mu ... yer_Daemon - MPD acts different if started as root or user.

Check for multiple bind_to_address entries in mpd.conf and restart daemon.

Re: Feature requst: test case for large database

Some MPD clients insist on downloading the whole MPD database when they connect, and some even maintain a shadow copy of the database. These clients are inherently broken
Yes. Adding a test case makes nasty client behaviour obvious to users.

Feature requst: test case for large database

Some MPD clients seem to have problems with large (here > 180k songs) MPD (from git, on Debian x64 testing) databases. Android clients take ages at startup or Windows clients hang on database update. How about a test case which simulates a large database to help developers to optimize clients?

Re: Audiophile Discussion of MPD

Nobody ever does a listening test before a MPD release. I know this, I'm the release manager (and have been for 11 years), and I don't do it and I've never got any feedback from any group or any person about such a listening test. Thank you again for keeping MPD free from audiophool bullshit (and D...

Do not use illegal or special characters in filenames. Or use vfs_catia.

Re: MPD serving up to 14 devices at a time

FYI, we are planning to use Logitech powered speakers, of course that has nothing to do with LMS.
Again a toy. How big are the rooms? What volume is required?

Re: MPD serving up to 14 devices at a time

Powered speakers or passive? Cabeling? Raspberry Pis are wonderful toys but not suitable for productive environment. Search the Internet for flash card wear or power supply related issues and multiply by 14.

Better use PA equiment. Less trouble and costs in the long run.

Just add

Code: Select all

to your httpd audio output.

Re: Sonos controller

I don't see any documentation. Example programs are documentation according to Mr. Barrière :( The library API is synchronous and thus cannot be integrated in MPD's event loop; this will cause a lot of trouble. And the library creates threads, which is not a good thing for a library to do. Ok, made...

Sonos controller

Thinking about very basic Sonsos support with Jean-Luc Barrière's https://github.com/janbar/noson C++ library for MPD. Speakers play MPDs http stream and volume control. What is the correct way of implementing such a thing? Standalone output plugin or httpd mixer?

Adding some basic controlling capabilities for Sonos, Snapcast or Chromecast Audio to MPD would be nice. Volume, mute, add and play local MPD as streaming source .

Mailing list link on website

Mailing list link on MPD website is broken. If MPD does not offer support through mailing lists any longer link should be removed.

Sonos and local MPD

Maybe this information is useful for someone. A large Swedish furniture store sells relatively cheap Sonos speakers with limited features (Bluetooth and microphone missing) called Symfonisk. In order to be able to listen to music via the Symfonisk without an internet connection, MPD can be configure...
