Re: GIT version of MPD and Native DSD

Ron, MPD (from GIT) should pass native DSD by default to a compatible DAC. As far I understand this (and I may be wrong), you can have the following: 1. Native DSD - MPD will stream DSD to a capable DAC by default. No need for "dop" setting to be available. 2. Upsample PCM - MPD will convert the nat...

You use PulseAudio. Do you experience the same with ALSA?

Re: REQUEST: Walkthrough of Installing from Source

The configure / make / make install parts are relevant to compile MPD. The rest are OS specific. It will be challenging a one-all be-all document. "1) A discussion of the configure file (possible edits required or parameters to pass on the ./configure param1 param2, etc)" The mpd.conf file has all t...

Re: PCM plays fine but DSD files [dff & dsf] do not...

‘SND_PCM_FORMAT_DSD_U8’ is for sending native DSD streams to you DAC. If your DAC does not support native mode, don't use it. In order to compile MPD, you will need to install the various dependencies. For Ubuntu / Debian, check out this page: http://www.musicpd.org/doc/user/ch02s02.html Potential i...

Re: Adding wav files from SD card recorder

Convert them to FLAC. If you rip your vinyl, try to rip them at 24bit / 96kHz.

Re: PCM plays fine but DSD files [dff & dsf] do not...

mp3tag works fine. I have some dsf files that their tags cannot be read by MPD. I will look into it tonight. I suspect that it the ID3 version that has the incompatibility issues.

You cannot seek dsf / dff files with the current MPD. How did you tag your dsf files? Which version of ID3?

Re: PCM plays fine but DSD files [dff & dsf] do not...

You are using a very old version of MPD. You get the message because 0.16.7 IS the latest version to your platform. You will need o compile MPD from source or find a newer package for you distribution. Also, DoP works regardless of WAV files. You do not need to convert anything to FLAC. Not sure abo...

You can try playing the problematic dsf / dff files with another player to see if this happens as well.

Re: PCM plays fine but DSD files [dff & dsf] do not...

Old versions of MPD used to hangup on the end of some dsf / dff files. It was supposed to be fixed in current version. Maybe you should open a bug here:

Check the CPU utilization when this happens. Do you have to restart MPD? DOes it happens only with dsf / dff files?

Re: PCM plays fine but DSD files [dff & dsf] do not...

Can you try changing your output to: audio_output { type "alsa" name "My ALSA Device" dsd_usb "yes" device "hw:CARD=Audio,DEV=0" } Or: audio_output { type "alsa" name "My ALSA Device" dsd_usb "yes" device "plughw:CARD=Audio,DEV=0" } Remember to restart mpd after every change.

Re: gmpc on multiple machines issue?

I don't believe the issue is with GMPC. You will need to have your music stored in a centralized location (NAS) and have each of your computers access it over the network. You can potentially install MPD on each computer and have it play locally.
