Re: MPD and Tags

@npbf: ... And i would really love to see more of the covers - backside, inside, artist, etc... For every album i additional stored a backside- and inside-jpg but till now i did not find a control-point to reproduce that. No, there is one software to make that possible - foobar2000 is very liberal ...

Re: MPD and Tags

Thanks for your long article nbpf! Till now i did not consider UPnP, i always thought it is restricted to few formats (no flac, dsf, etc.). Now i did a little research about that theme and it looks quite promising. You are right, with MinimServer there is much more freedom in using tags and it seem...

Re: MPD and Tags

... My actual situation is not really satisfying: The tagging problems i had with MPD seem to be nearly solved, but on the other side i don't have a client which gives me the possibility to recognize all the different tags. I use MPDroid for Android on a Nexus 10, which is a very nice peace of soft...

Re: MPD and Tags

@conta: I am using MPD since more than three years. It is a great tool but, in my opinion, its tags system is hardly usable for all but pop music. Since a few months, I am using MPD as a back-end for upmpdcli with MinimServer as a OpenHome server. I am extremely satisfied with the way MinimServer s...

Re: Transcoding to WAV

A FLAC file, is a losslessly encoded WAVE file - the only scenario where a WAVE file, might sound better than a FLAC file, is if the processor, uncompressing the FLAC file, before playback, is so slow, it cannot uncompress, and playback the uncompressed audio, that gets passed to the audio player, ...

Re: MPD going classical?

For all those interested in how to organize collections of classical music, there is a very interested thread on the Minimserver forum:

The third post (by DavidHB) is particularly interesting, in my view. Best, nbpf

Re: wrong order

in which order the files of an album are added to the queue, when a whole album is selected for being played. How do you "select an album"? MPD doesn't know about albums. Selection of single files of whole albums is usually done via MPD clients. My understanding is that the OP has written "I have r...

Re: MPD going classical?

With the mentioned solution, there is no need for MPD to store anything in its DB. Absolutely right but I don't like the proposed solution ;) What could be viable alternatives? Where is the development of MPD heading to? It is very difficult for users to make meaningful feature requests, attempt at...

Re: MPD going classical?

Another server to store metadata and client software - seems to me overkill. I already did some work to query and store embedded graphics. Just tell me the ID3 tags you need ( http://id3.org/id3v2.4.0-frames ) and I will provide some patches for MPD. @Max: is it OK to expand MPDs database? skidoo, ...

Re: MPD going classical?

I have been using the same configuration for the last month will excellent results. I can also stream from Tidal and Qobuz via Bubble and MPD plays them without a problem. Good to know Ran, thanks for your feedback! Which control point software are you using with Minimserver? I do not have an andro...

Adding symlink information to the database?

It is well known that using "internal" symbolic links leads to fake copies of album tracks. For instance https://github.com/nicolabotta/screenshots/blob/master/ncmpcpp/Screenshot%20-%2012312015%20-%2012:27:54%20PM.jpg comes into place because there are two symbolic links pointing to the tracks of th...

Re: wrong order

Kristof, as far as I understand, MPD plays the files of an album according to the lexicographical order of the "Title" tag values. Wrong. MPD plays the files (wherever they come from) in the order they appear in the play queue. (Unless you have specified song priorities or enabled random mode.) Rig...

Re: wrong order

Kristof, as far as I understand, MPD plays the files of an album according to the lexicographical order of the "Title" tag values. Perhaps Max can confirm this assumption or explain which replay order is otherwise enforced by MPD. Your "Title" values are possibly like in the second list of your post...

MPD going classical?

MPD is a great system for replaying many kinds of music but, for classical music, its limited, hard-wired set of tags is essentially unusable. Just to make an example, MPD's set of tags does not even support browsing a music collection according to a COMPOSER / WORK / INTERPRETATION scheme which, fo...

Re: Transcoding to WAV

I do not see what is esoteric in comparing the effects (be these void, negligible or significant) of different file formats on sound quality. From here, it is obvious that you have not the slightest idea what you are talking about. Yes, different lossy codecs (not file formats!) do have different s...
