Sharing audio device with another program
On my raspberry pi running OSMC I want to run both Kodi and MPD (not a fan of the bulit-in Kodi audio player). They both need to use the same audio interface (Hifiberry Amp2). I believe they're currently both using ALSA (MPD certainly is). Currently they conflict, since if one is already running, th...

Re: HifiBerry DAC+ MPD Mixer Problem
I had the same issue today (though with a Hifiberry Amp2). Recompiling MPD at master didn't fix the issue for me. The solution for me was to set the default ALSA card by making a /etc/asound.conf file with the following contents: defaults.pcm.card 1 defaults.ctl.card 1 Card 1 is my Hifiberry Amp2. I...

Re: USB amplifier recommendations?
Just tumbleweed since I posted this, but I'm still on the hunt. Let's step back. Does anyone know if such a piece of equipment is actually possible? The main thing, I think, is the mixer the audio interface exposes to the OS over USB. Am I right to say that such a thing can exist? 1. That a USB audi...

Re: Installing and linking libmpdclient/MPD
Thanks for the explanation. In response to your first question, I assumed to start with that that extra directory would be looked in automatically, that it is a standard thing based on system architecture. Just before I saw your reply, I found that I can add a file to /etc/ld.so.conf.d with the path...

Installing and linking libmpdclient/MPD
This is a continuation of https://github.com/MusicPlayerDaemon/MPD/issues/90 It turned out that I still had the libmpdclient2 and libmpdclient-dev packages from the Ubuntu repository installed. I did the following, on both machines: removed the libmpdclient2 and libmpdclient-dev packages ran git cle...

USB amplifier recommendations?
I'm looking for a specific piece of equipment, but haven't been able to find anything which quite matches what I'm looking for. It's possible that it exists, but I'm searching by all the wrong keywords. USB interface Outputs to passive left and right speakers (speakers are not chosen yet, so the spe...

Cross-compiling
Is there any recommended guide on how to cross-compile MPD? I don't know much about build systems and compilation -- I've just always run ./configure (and installed any dependencies it complained that I was missing until that succeeded) and then make, and it's gone OK. Obviously that's just for the ...

Re: No tracks from a particular artist are adding to library
That's fair; I wasn't explicit about it. I did say I went through the troubleshooting article on the wiki, which does talk about permissions. But I don't believe that's the issue. $ ls -ld /{,mnt{,/hoard{,/media{,/audio{,/music{,/Amorphis{,/"2001--2001 -- Am Universum"{,/"01 Alone.flac"}}}}}}}} drwx...

Re: No tracks from a particular artist are adding to library
Hi, Max. What could it be, then? It's not the files, and it's not their permissions. I'm running the latest MPD. Is there a way to get MPD to be more verbose about what's going on when it scans the library? And if the only way is to start throwing extra print statements in the code, could you please...

No tracks from a particular artist are adding to library
I noticed today that no tracks at all from a particular artist (Amorphis) are appearing in my MPD library. All the files are FLAC, but I don't have problems with any of my other FLACs as far as I've noticed. The metadata on the files in question appears to be totally fine. I write it the same way as...

Re: Song blacklist feature
That's good to know, but I don't actually want to exclude them from the library. I guess it's a pretty specific use case.

Re: Song blacklist feature
Perhaps not for you, Max, and that's fair. I listen to music an album at a time, and the clients I use let me do that with one button, for the most part -- I find the album and then I tell it to add it. It adds all of the tracks to the playlist. But as I said above some albums have "bonus tracks" on...

Song blacklist feature
I have some albums where I always want to skip particular tracks. For example an album where the second disc or last few tracks are demos or live versions, that sort of thing. I don't want them to disappear from the library, but I'd like them not to be added to the playlist, or added but automatical...

Ignore lossy files when lossless is present
My library is a mishmash of lossless and lossy files. I want to maintain everything possible lossless but have lossy versions of everything for easy dumping on my mobile devices. Is there any way to have MPD detect that the same track (via Musicbrainz ID, for example) is available in various qualiti...

mpdproxy -- passwordless mpd for given IP ranges
I wrote this a year or so ago and just got around to releasing it in case it's useful for anyone else. https://github.com/tremby/mpdproxy It's a simple proxy server for MPD written in Node.js which is configured with a port to run on (I run the proxy on 6600), the real MPD's host, port (I run that o...
