Compile error "can not be used when making a PIE object"

I am trying to compile the latest main branch, but the build fails with: /usr/bin/ld: libpcm.a(libpcm_a-SampleFormat.o): relocation R_X86_64_32S against `.rodata._Z23sample_format_to_string12SampleFormat' can not be used when making a PIE object; recompile with -fPIC git show commit 1155a2909620f532...

OK, looks like it's this compiler bug: https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=77585
Your compiler is already 2 years behind...
Upgrading gcc and g++ to version 7 solved the errors. Thanks!

Re: Errors building from latest source 0.20.21

My apologies. My environment hasn't changed, so I assumed it was due to a change in the code. Here are some further details: From .git/config [remote "origin"] url = https://github.com/MaxKellermann/MPD.git Results of autogen script user@machine: /MPD/MPD-Main-Branch/MPD$ ./autogen.sh configure.ac:2...

Re: Errors building from latest source 0.20.21

This is after a `git pull`. I guessed at the version number based on the commit into `android` 13 days ago: http://i64.tinypic.com/15fruhw.png I wondered if maybe the error is due to the commits in `src/neighbor/plugins/UdisksNeighborPlugin.cxx' from 6 days ago: http://i63.tinypic.com/33vdkid.png th...

Errors building from latest source 0.20.21

After pulling the latest source and trying `make clean` I get the following errors when running `make`: src/neighbor/plugins/UdisksNeighborPlugin.cxx: In instantiation of ‘UdisksNeighborExplorer::HandleMessage(DBusConnection*, DBusMessage*)::<lambda(const char*, auto:4&&)> [with auto:4 = ODBus::Read...

Cannot run MPD as service when build from source

I am trying to run the most recent version of MPD as a service on Ubuntu 16.04.3, but following the directions in the documentation doesn't work and seems to break the dbus daemon. ~$mpd --version Music Player Daemon 0.21 (v0.20.10-378-g91438b6) I tried configuring with both: --with-systemduserunitd...

Re: MPD 0.20.3 Won't Play MP3 Files

It does appear to be a problem with GMPC. The same files play fine in sonata

Re: MPD 0.20.3 Won't Play MP3 Files

Wrong command. "add", not "load". Does this mean there's a problem with GMPC? I get this error in GMPC when I double-click an .mp3 file, or right-click and choose "add", or right-click and choose "add to playlist", or right-click and choose "replace". Basically, there is no way to play .mp3 files w...

MPD 0.20.3 Won't Play MP3 Files

I am running the latest version of MPD from github (0.20.3) and the latest version of FFMPEG (3.2.2.) on Ubuntu 16.04 with Kernel 4.4.0-62. MPD is reading my database correctly, and playing back all file types, except mp3's. When I play an mp3 file, or try to add one to the play cue with GMPC, I get...

Re: Problems with DSD_U32_BE

This is likely outside the scope of MPD development, but is there anything I can do to get full functionality from the Encore mDSD? Is it possible to do something with modprobe or alsa.config to indicate the device is capable of native DSD? lsusb shows: ID 16d0:09dd MCS and aplay -l shows: card 3: m...

Re: Problems with DSD_U32_BE

In case anyone else finds their way here, my Encore mDSD is also working with 0.20.2, as long as I set: dop "yes" in .mpdconf. The mDSD shows the data as DSD (blue light) and sounds awesome.

Perfect playback, everything sounds great!

Many thanks for the rapid development!

Re: Problems with DSD_U32_BE

I'm not yet sure. The changes to existing plugins are serious bugs, but they are nullified by serious bugs in other parts of MPD that guy added. Did I already express how much I dislike this obscure coding style? ;-) I ran into a few problems trying to compile it; it took some hacking and commentin...

Could it be in the updates he did to the plugins (DsdiffDecoderPlugin.cxx, DsdDecoderPlugin.cxx, and DffDecoderPlugin.cxx)?

Re: Problems with DSD_U32_BE

Thanks. Please try the latest "master" branch. I've written a patch which fixes the byte order, which may solve your problem. Thanks for that! The latest master does allow play back of DSD64, DSD128, and DSD256 files. However, the "hiss" that was present on the test branch is still there. The track...

Re: Problems with DSD_U32_BE

Okay, I have captured logs and recordings for the same track, at the same settings, with both the xxxbugs build and your test dsd_u32 build. I have labelled the flac audio files and log files to correspond with the build used to make the recording. Volume levels and the recording interface are all i...

Re: Problems with DSD_U32_BE

Thanks, that's great info!

Any guesses as to how I can get rid of the hiss? Although the music is there and playing, it's buried in constant hiss.

Out of curiosity, I compiled this version:
https://github.com/xxxbugxxxx/MPD

and it is streaming DSD64, DSD128, and DSD256 with no hiss
